August 14th was the 12 year anniversary of my Mom's passing. And let me tell you, it never gets any easier.
If you have read my blog for awhile, you probably remember that every year around the anniversary of my mom's death, some of my friends and I head out to Anna Maria Island. AMI is my favorite place, and it really helps to spend this time with my girlfriends laughing and smiling. It keeps my mind off of the fact that August is such a hard month for me. Now, come August 1st, I am looking forward to AMI instead of "the anniversary" of my mom's death...Here is a recap of AMI 2011. We didn't make it out there in 2012. But, we resumed our trip this year, and, it was amazing! Here's a few pics from our day trip on Saturday the 10th.
And were off, Anna Maria Island, HERE WE COME!

Fun on the pier :)
And we ended the night at home, with more great friends <3
On the actual anniversary, the 14th, I went to the cemetery that morning to take some flowers, and my friend surprised me with a marble stone he had engraved himself. It was a super sweet gesture! After that I went home and had one of my "nephews" over for a pool party before work. My room mates nephews also came over. Kids ALWAYS have a way of making everything better. We all had fun doing a picnic style lunch and swimming.
The top left picture is the stone my friend engraved. Yellow butterflies remind me of her!
He said he looked like Peter Parker in this picture, LOVE IT!

So, all in all, I made it through the 12 year anniversary okay with no major meltdowns. I heard the Carrie Underwood song "I will see you again" twice that day, including right when I pulled up to the cemetery, and it brought me to tears each time. Also, at like 2am on the anniversary, I created an Elton John station on Pandora because my Mom loved him, and the first song that came on was "Candle in the wind" which my mom loved. That also brought me to tears. Oh how I love music!
One can get through anything with the love and support of amazing friends and family. I am SO blessed.
